Job Description:
We are looking for a talented mechanical engineer to design various mechanical assemblies for JPL’s next Mars mission called Mars Sample Return Lander. As a Structures and Mechanisms Engineer you will help in the design of various subsystems, working closely with other members of an interdisciplinary team. This job requires enthusiasm, creativity as well as attention to detail in order to develop unique, practical, and novel designs that are capable of achieving the mission objectives.
Some challenges you will tackle:
Developing and preparing engineering requirements and specifications for mechanical systems
• Designing complex structures and mechanisms with challenging engineering requirements
• Performing analyses and trade studies to evaluate various design concepts
• Developing designs that must operate in extreme environments
• Developing mechanical interfaces across multiple hardware elements (some spanning international partners)
• Generating design review materials that document and validate your designs


Required Skills:
• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
• Offer contingent on ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline with a minimum of 3 year of related experience; Master’s degree or PhD in similar discipline.
• Knowledge of aerospace structures and mechanism design
• Ability to juggle and prioritize a number of tasks in order to meet commitments with high quality products
• Excellent communication skills and accountability working in a virtual environment
• Leadership Skills to guide a small team of support engineers
Desired Skills:
• Practical experience with CAD modeling software, especially UG-NX
• Familiarity with Geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) using ASME Y14.5-2009
• Experience with spaceflight hardware development
• Experience with testbeds for hardware development
• Experience developing rapid-prototypes and proof-of-concept demonstration units
• Experience leading engineering teams
