We are currently seeking a highly skilled systems engineer to provide the business knowledge and technical expertise to implement strategies, evaluate products, and build an infrastructure that supports the future needs of NASA. In this role, you will work with complex systems, designing, developing, and integrating them at every stage of its life cycle. Objectives and responsibilities of this Role 

  • Build, deploy, manage, and maintain new and existing infrastructure systems
  • Monitor and analyze data center infrastructure resources and system applications 
  • Implement and maintain backups redundancy strategies
  • Responsible for the security of the managed infrastructure systems
  • Responsible for collaborating and defining policies, procedures, and technical documentation including reports, design, maintenance, operational, and support procedures
  • Responsible for the on-going development of automation strategies
  • Engage with upper management and stakeholders with requirements, status reports, activity summaries, and achievements

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities 

  • Communicate with stakeholders to identify their needs and visions
  • Use expert-level administration and optimization of hosts and servers to ensure high availability and appropriate resource management
  • Standardize and automate processes and monitoring using scripting and advance technologies offered by the data center
  • Install and configure operating systems, software, and hardware components, and clearly document the design, maintenance, and support procedures for routine tasks to leverage IT support staff.
  • Routinely test software for bugs, redundancies, and security issues.
  • Conduct high-level root-cause analysis for service interruption and establish preventive measures.
  • Create reports and documentation out-lining findings and solution; oversee the overall backup strategy and daily operations for secure backups and restore testing.
  • Configuration Management (CM) experience (Ansible/Puppet/Chef)
  • Familiar with Containers (Docker/Kubernetes)


Must Have Skills and Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology or computer science
  • 7 years of experience
  • Strong interpersonal, written, oral communication skills
  • Strong time-management and priority management skills
  • Strong Linux/Unix background
  • Experience with RHEL and related operating systems
  • Scripting experience (Shell/Perl/Python, or related language)
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and principles (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
  • Experience with designing/managing virtual infrastructures (VMWare/Nutanix/Hyper-V)
  • Strong reasoning, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Expertise in creating, analyzing, and maintaining large-scale infrastructure deployments
  • Experience with private-cloud backup and recovery

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Proven ability to think outside-of-the-box
  • Technical documentation skills
  • Familiar with software-defined networking (SDN)
  • Familiar with HA environments
  • Infrastructure migration experience
  • Familiar with the ELK Stack with emphasis on Elastic Search

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. 

Analyses of all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions recognizing technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Provide proposal support including writing inputs for submittal. Provide evaluation of test procedures and plans along with test data submittals and reports.

Ability to understand systems level engineering requirements and drawings. Specialized knowledge in one technical discipline is supplemented with understanding of fundamentals in at least two other technical disciplines. Good communicator capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team of technologists as well as on an independent and self-directed basis.
