We are currently seeking a Data Scientist to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

Responsibilities

Job Description:

• Provide scientific IT support for NIMH IRP laboratories and core facilities employing best practices and data science techniques
• Software development for NIMH IRP laboratories and core facilities
• Web based applications development for NIMH IRP laboratories and core facilities
• Provide programming and scripting support to NIMH IRP laboratories and core facilities
• Provide high performance computing support to NIMH researchers
• Manage and administer NIMH SIO Computational infrastructure
• Manage and administer NIMH SIO Cloud computing infrastructure
• Select, order and set up new computational hardware for scientific use
• Order, install and maintain scientific software licenses
• Answer technical queries and assist users in this regard. Troubleshoot reported problems
• Monitor system performance and hardware status. Arrange repair and service for hardware when needed (communicate with vendors, purchasing agents etc.)

 

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Ph.D in a STEM or quantitative biomedical field; three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
• Minimum of three (3) years of related experience
• Knowledge of modern programming languages used for data science such as R or Python
• Experience in computer systems administration and scripting
• Experience with high performance computing
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
• Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
